Bins/ Waste update from DDDC

The suspension from today of food waste collections as a temporary measure has freed up Serco’s teams to enable all other scheduled rounds to take place today, plus some catch-ups and bin deliveries.

A reminder that residents need to mix their food waste in their usual household waste (grey) bin - or sacks (if not on a bins round).

To help prevent animals ripping open sacks in search of food waste, residents on sack rounds can put their usual food caddy out alongside their refuse sacks if they wish, but food inside the caddy does need to be contained within a sealed bag.

While all scheduled rounds are underway today, unfortunately this doesn't mean all rounds will necessarily be completed - this is due to the sheer volume of waste, which is filling trucks more quickly than is the case in normal circumstances as crews clear the backlog.

All other emergency measures originally announced just over a week ago - including not collecting excess recycling and not returning for missed collections after 4 days - are now on hold pending decisions to be made by councillors at tomorrow's extraordinary meeting of the council.
